ABOUT US
3rd Shift WCC is the first of its kind in offering 24-hour shelter to a portion of the homeless population who have no other opportunity to be in other facilities (disenfranchised). This innovative approach ensures that individuals facing extreme weather conditions have a safe place to stay, regardless of the time of day. By offering round-the-clock access, we address the gaps left by traditional shelters with limited hours. This initiative supports our most vulnerable community members.
Our partnership with a local church (First English Lutheran Community Church) has allowed us to create a welcoming space where individuals can access meals, hygiene facilities, and basic necessities. This collaboration has significantly enhanced our ability to heal and serve the community effectively. Additionally, we offer comprehensive services such as medical care, job placement assistance, and mental health support. Our goal is to provide a holistic approach to help individuals regain stability and work towards self-sufficiency. The center operates year-round, ensuring that no one is left out in the cold or sweltering heat with an area for clothing giveaways and sleeping. The population we serve includes women, pregnant women, veterans, men, partners, service animals, challenging backgrounds and those with disabilities. By maintaining a safe, community-centered environment, we ensure that their critical needs are met, offering not just shelter but a sense of healing, dignity and support.
OUR FOUNDER AND OUR BOARD
After working for the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless, our founder, Jasmine Garnes Franklin, developed a passion to create and operate a non-profit organization to service the disenfranchised homeless population whose past was hindering their future. She was able to put together a team of unique individuals with the skillset and passion to operate our 24-hour Warming Cooling Center. A love and desire to help people fueled our passion to serve our guests daily. Although each day comes with its own challenges, it is also rewarding.
